Pretty much every girl with afro hair has been through the same ordeal. Our hair is extremely high maintenance and expensive. I’m mixed race and have tight afro hair. My hair confuses people, my hair confuses hairdressers, and so it stands to reason that my hair confuses me. I've finally stopped experiencing hair envy with everybody I meet, but I still have no idea what I'm doing with it.

Below are the 25 things every girl with afro hair knows to be true. 

1. You want to throttle curly haired girls who moan that their hair is unmanageable.

2. Or girls with straight hair that say they wish they had your hair.

3. Dionne from Clueless made your braids cool overnight.

4. Brandy helped some more.

5. Then Cleopatra ruined it. 

6. You've always wondered why your hair products are blue.

7. You always smell of coconut.

8. You have an unnatural aversion to scissors. A phobia, even. 

9. We don't do rain. 

10. You didn’t laugh at Monica in Friends, because we know.

11. When you were young, Sundays = hair days and your mum became your enemy.

12. The words 'No, you can’t touch it!', are deployed at will. 

13. And you definitely can't touch it if we have weave in.

 14. Hair relaxer is the devil. It burns!

15. Ditto the hot comb. It also burns! 

16. When we say we can’t come out because we are washing our hair – we mean it. 

17. We have to protect our hair at night with one of these:

19.  Forget to protect it and we will wake up looking like this:

22. We have to suffer the irritation of being constantly asked 'Is your hair real?'

23. Although, we might be lying when we tell you the answer...

24. Because the best thing about afro hair is how versatile you can be with it.
