Jessica Alba selects her favourite red carpet hairstyles

by

Oh, to be a red-carpet starlet. Well, maybe not actually. Because, what seems like the most luxurious and decadent experience from the outside looking in, actually takes a whole lot of effort, hours upon hours of preening, and a glam squad the size of a small village. But she who dares wins. And Jessica Alba, Braun's new beauty ambassador, has a great line in effortful, but effortless-looking red-carpet hair.

We talked to the actress herself about the hair looks that have remained memorable moments for her, those precious moments when every hair falls into place.

Old Hollywood waves at the Golden Globes, 2013

'I loved my hair at the Golden Globes in 2013. I’m a big fan of glamorous waves and don’t often have the time to achieve them at home, so this was a real treat for me. I think the look was really inspired by the old school, glamorous beauty icons of yesterday, such as Veronica Lake, and IT probably took around an hour altogether to create. A lot of people made the comment on my hairstyle teaming perfectly with the dress, which was a fishtail gown in a peach colour – I felt so confident and radiant, just like I had walked straight out of a black and white movie into technicolour!'

Sleek and smooth at The People's Choice Awards, 2014

'At the People’s Choice Awards this year, I tried a completely different look, sleeked back but still feminine. I loved this because it made me feel very ‘LA’, which is a look I don’t often go for – so I got to have a bit of fun here! It was quite a simple look to create, maybe 45 minutes tops! With products like the Braun SensoCare Styler, which has an amazing sleek design with smooth edges, I can recreate the look at home easily, without worrying about damaging my hair! The look lasted the whole evening and everyone was very sweet about the look on the night. I think my lasting memory at the event was presenting – it’s strange how nervous you can feel facing that many people in the crowd.'

Sophisticated chignon at the Golden Globes, 2012

'Another Golden Globes favourite was in 2012, where my hair was tied up in an elegant and sophisticated chignon, creating a real fairytale look when teamed with my lilac gown. I think the style itself took around an hour and a half to finish, and it lasted the whole night long minus a few baby hairs peeking through! It was a really special evening as I had my hubby Cash with me. I also remember having fun with Channing Tatum at the rehearsals the day before the event.'

Volumized chignon at the 78th Annual Academy Awards, 2005

'When I was younger, I used to love trying out new hair styles, and at the 78th Annual Academy Awards I wore this spiraling chignon, which was actually pretty cool and had a lot of volume! It easily took close to two hours and a whole can of hairspray to finish. It had to last the whole evening as I was presenting with Eric Bana – who was such a gentleman!'

Laid-back lengths at the Producers Guild Awards, 2013

'Finally, sometimes it’s nice just to have your hair down for the red carpet, and that’s exactly what I did at the Producers Guild Awards in 2013. By keeping my hair relaxed, I was able to wear a bright pop of pink lipstick without looking too overdone! It was easy and quick to create the look, and the lack of style meant that it lasted effortlessly the whole night. Again, Cash was with me that night – we had so much fun!'
