Visiting a department store beauty hall is a bit like a trip to Disneyland. High on the rich floral fragrances and dazzled by the shiny surfaces, we’re surrounded by a sea of pretty products in chic packaging, all vying for our attention. But among the staggering variety on show, only a select few have stood out this year, selling by the truck load. You, the beauty consumer, have for your favourites with your wallet: what better way to prove the efficacy of a product than the fact that it sits inside thousands of make-up bags up and down the country?

Their top sellers for 2013 showed that we still can't get enough of certain cult classics, such as Eve Lom's famous cleanser and YSL’s Touche Eclat, while several of this year's new launches went on to become beauty blockbusters in their own right, such as Clarins Double Serum and Dolce & Gabbana’s Velvet Desert Oud. And Debenhams’ soaring sales of MAC’s Ruby Woo lipstick prove that a killer red lippie will always be set your hearts on fire.
