Luxurious fairytale dresses at Elie Saab for spring
Elie Saab's fairytale dresses are often destined to take one of two very different life-journeys. Either they end up in front of the cameras, on red carpets, at galas and premieres; or they never see the light of day.
That's an exaggeration of course - but Saab is one of those designers with a large fanbase of private clients, who like to keep themselves just that: largely private.
That doesn't stop the Beirut-born designer from going full pelt in terms of intricacy, colour and sheer luxury, nor would those customers want it to. Some of these dresses will be seen come award ceremony season; others will be worn at events the likes of most won't ever even hear about.
Inspired by nature and gardens, gowns and dresses made from gossamer-thin Chantilly lace came in blooming shades of rose, raspberry and jade, each encrusted with appliqué flowers, sequins and paillettes. There was corset detailing too - nothing too restrictive, as part of the beauty of a Saab gown is in its fit-and-flare aspect - which created a cage-like, lingerie effect of construction.
The wispiest materials seemed solid and sinuous all at once, in split column dresses and full skirted gowns with cross-strap detailing at the back.
There were black versions too, and an off-white with the barest hint of grey to it, making these not only once-in-a-lifetime dresses but also a chic event option (especially the jumpsuits) should you be the type to need clothes like these on a regular basis. And, of course, we all wish we were.
