The Propagandist – June 13 – 19

Hawking dirty food: It’s a little known fact that the basement cocktail bar at Hawksmoor Spitalfields serves a substantial menu of dirty bar food that costs a fraction of the price of the spectacular steaks in the main restaurant, but is still up to the same standard. Seriously, the chilli cheese dog (£10), will change your life. As if it wasn’t already good value, there’s 50% off the bar menu from this week until June 30 to give you a chance to sample new treats such as Seoul ribs (£5), washed down with one of their amazing cocktails.

Browns bag it: the summer sales are in full swing, and on June 14 Browns will be cutting the prices on their stellar selection of collections from cool, cult and classic designers including ACNE, Balenciaga, Carven, Proenza Schouler and T by Alexander Wang. Get up early and start clicking before everyone else does.

Secret songs: following the success of Secret Cinema, its creators are venturing into live music, starting with a series of shows by Laura Marling, the first of which takes place on June 13 at the Grand Eagle hotel in East London. As per it’s secretive nature, details are being kept under wraps, but an ‘immersive live music experience’, as its being touted, involving Marling’s atmospheric new album, Once I was an Eagle, and an intriguing old building will no doubt be amazing. All dates are unfortunately sold out but fingers crossed for new dates, and eyes peeled for the inevitable YouTube videos that will crop up.

Meltdown: every year a key cultural figure takes over the Southbank centre (Patti Smith and David Bowie being just two to have had the privilege) and invite all their equally talented mates to come and perform for events at Meltdown festival. This year’s host is Yoko Ono (who needs no introduction) who has curated a programme including a John Lennon educational tourbus and performances from Peaches, Deerhoof, Iggy and the Stooges Julianna Barwick and more, starting June 13. See the Meltdown website for full programme and tickets.

Have a magpie moment: Treasure will be setting up shop from June 13 -16 at London Jewellery Week, allowing you to snap up the best contemporary jewellery from around the UK including classic as well as unusual and artisan pieces. Once you’re fully blinged-up you can ogle even more incredible jewels on show at the event, hosted at Somerset House.
