What do students wear these days?

In one of our more Nana-ish office moments, we raised the question about what students wear these days. As our office demographic ranges from just-graduated to mid-30s, this was led by the older faction fondly reminiscing about Buffalo trainers and fleeces, lots of fleeces, while the younger crowd rolled their eyes. So we sent photographers to student unions and campuses in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and London to find out.

Thrillingly for the olds, the aesthetic hasn't changed all that much. The current trend for all things 90s has meant that stonewashed denim, sweatshirts and logos are present and correct. Put a disposable camera filter on some of these images and they're indistinguishable from 1998. Trainers are big news with Nike and Adidas's running shoes getting the biggest vote while Dr Martens, or Balenciaga 'inspired' cut-out boots follow closely behind.

The great British high street has brought about ageless style. Ten or fifteen years ago you didn't shop at Topshop past 25, we didn't have a Zara, now we all shop everywhere and recognise the same pieces on women from 16 to 50. Scary? It shouldn't be. These students wear it their way, giving a fresh perspective on how the trends are being translated.
