Kate Moss makes her Playboy debut
The first image of Kate Moss's mouch-touted shoot for Playboy appeared on the internet today prompting comment and cries, not to mention equal amounts of outrage and approval.
Rumours of Kate Moss and Playboy had been swirling for months, following a supposed leaked memo from Hugh Hefner's HQ, which we like to imagine featured a letterhead of bunny ears, was on pink perfumey paper and perhaps signed 'The Hef XOXO', before the confirmation leaked via Moss's tipsy hairstylist Oribe over the summe.
Kate's foray into the bunny warren was shot back in March by the dream team of Mert & Marcus, with W's Alex White styling. It's visually gorgeous - and not at all sleazy, with an air of fashion editorial, rather than grot mag
Mert & Marcus also shot Kate nude earlier this year, for Love's delicious bathtub spring / summer cover. The spread inside, by Tim Walker, was her most naked shoot yet. How might one put this delicately? The Moss garden was unveiled. Apparently, the rest of the Playboy images are not as graphic.
The Playboy empire has worked its 'come here, my pretty' charm on many an unlikely name. Daisy Lowe 'freaked out' when her issue hit the stands last year, saying that she didn't realise it would be quite so naked. Picture approval, Daisy dear. Other models to take the plunge have included Eva Herzigova with an even bigger 'Hello boys', Naomi Campbell in an unspeakable red, white and green Christmas cover and Lizzy Jagger following in her mum's footsteps, praying her dad wouldn't kick off.
Unbelievably, nineties butter-wouldn't-melt icons Tiffany and Belinda Carlisle were also lured into the hot-tub. Kim Basinger did it before she hit the big time and became a Bond girl (nice instincts, Hef), Drew Barrymore posed during her tearaway phase aged 19 and they bagged a shoot with Sherilyn Fenn at the height of Twin Peaks mania. Even Elizabeth Taylor did it.
