From going out to galleries, eating out to entertainment, the in-crowd gives us their recommendations

American DJ Colleen Murphy founded Classic Album Sundays, an event that gives participants a chance to listen to an entire album – no shuffling or skipping – as part of a communal listening experience. This year, she is running a series in the chapel of The House of St Barnabas, the Soho-based charity supporting London's homeless. She lives in east London with her family.

I’m always reading a book. I’m actually in a book club in Victoria Park Village. Right now I’m reading a book called John Saturnall’s Feast by Lawrence Norfolk. It’s about the Tudor times, actually, which is very in right now, isn’t it? It’s about witchcraft and cooking and herbal remedies. I’m also reading a book on the making of Tubular Bells, I always have a fiction book and a music book on the go.

I drink Belgian beer. They’re strong but it makes me drink less – which is good.

I'm been getting into clothes swaps recently. There's one called Mrs Bears and it's a lot of fun. I get great stuff there, you never know what you're going to find, and it forces me to clear out my wardrobe.

On Friday nights I usually have BBC Four on because it’s music night. My favourite documentary that I’ve seen recently – it just blew me away – was the Bowie one, Five Years, on BBC Two.I just thought it was the best documentary ever. I’ll be watching House of Cards on Netflix. I just recently got into Netflix and realised the joys.

There’s a cool place nobody knows about in an alley parallel to Broadway Market. A Trinidadian place. It’s not really a restaurant but they do takeaway food, they do Trinidadian catering usually. They sell something called doubles. It’s like an Indian bread – Trinidad has a lot Indian influence – with a mixture of chickpeas and different sauces. It’s incredible. A little hidden secret off Broadway Market, I don’t even think there’s a sign outside but check it out. It’s so good.

I’ll cook linguine with fresh clams for my family. I buy the clams in Jonathan Norris in Victoria Park village and I’ll use a River Café recipe because I love it there. Clams, Olive oil, white wine, garlic, dried chillis, parsley and salt and pepper. That’s it. With grilled courgette on the side.

I go all over for music but one of my favourite record stores is Kristina Records in Dalston. I like little record shops that are more curated, where they suggest things. I also go to Phonica a lot because I’m a DJ and that’s where I buy a lot of my dance music. I go in for a couple of hours and just listen to new things or things that I don’t know.
