Bobbi Brown and the modern day geisha at L'Wren Scott

Those not attuned to the tides and turns of beauty may think us mad, but to those firmly entrenched in that world, Bobbi Brown is something of a God.

Not just because she can paint a pretty face, (though that’s surely her cardinal talent) but because she’s taken something as rudimentary as make-up and made it a democratic tool of empowerment for women – all women.

See, slightly sycophantic, right? Well, consider this: for Bobbi’s only LFW show (that of her good friend, L’Wren Scott), she effortlessly whipped up one of the most thoughtful, highbrow (excuse the pun) looks of the season thus far; it’s Japanese and geisha inspired but not geisha looking,’ she noted. ‘My background is in theatrical make-up so I don’t go back to my roots – it’s got to be modern, with a beautiful texture.’

About as far away from pastiche as you could get, Bobbi treated the models’ skin with her own BB cream and finished with retouching powders on the skin and lips, ‘to create a stain’, without it ‘appearing dry’ with a tiny hint of blush on the cheeks. The result was, fortuitously, just as Bobbi had planned it, modern and beautiful.

And three cheers for both Sam McKnight (who designed the hair look) and Eamonn Hughes using Bumble & Bumble, for boldly stepping foot into toupee territory and pulling it off. Now, these are some wigs we actually want to wear. Very Prada.
