The red lip of your life at AF Vandevorst

by

Can you? Do you? There’s nothing like a red lip to polarize opinion. A classic akin to fashion’s little black dress in some people’s minds. A ‘hello boys’ call to action for others. Still, more are convinced it epitomises and perpetuates the objectification of women.

So, here’s a thought. Stop the internal monologue for a moment and take this at (ultra-flattering) face value. Because today at AF Vandevorst, we witnessed the red lip to end all red lips. Blurry, buffed, a hint of blue with a dash of coral, frayed around the edges and full  - so full - of deep, rich colour. Liberated from the shackles of a precise shape or definitive liner, the result had all the insouciance of the modern minx.

Better still, it’s blissfully easy for even the shaky of hand to recreate. Classic MAC Ruby Woo Lipstick laid the foundations of colour, leaving a blend of Lipmix in Fuchsia and Orange to add the final pop in the centre. Buff over the edges, (the action here is press then swiftly circle) to create the correct colour fade towards the outer edges, leaving the slightly darker centre to create the impression of a tulip unfurling in springtime.

For, as make-up artist Terry Barber so rightly said, ‘this lip represents power without feeling heavy. And that’s what today’s woman is all about’.

Pair with cool, pale skin and naked lashes if you dare. You can (and will) make this the red lip aesthetic you stick to for life.
