If you think about it, festival make-up is an entirely different kettle of fish. It’s that one or two days a year where you’re allowed to detach yourself from those ingrained aesthetic rituals for a 24-hour period of unhinged living. It’s that ‘sod it, it’s a festival’ attitude that could render almost anyone to feel totally at ease without their prized combination of Laura Mercier Foundation Primer, Armani Maestro foundation and MAC Transparent Finishing Powder, for example…

Because festivals, happily, are a wild foray into all things extreme, fantastical, improper or verboten. For, when else can you experiment with a new look without being endlessly ridiculed by friends if it all goes a bit south? It’s a get out of jail free card because you ‘would never wear that in real life! Hell no’. Equally, festivals may present the oppurtunity to go to town with your outfit, leaving your beauty diktat to fall in line after that.

Whatever the reason, when London and beyond descended on Victoria Park this weekend for Field Day, all manner of cosmetic wonderment decorated the sea of festival goers.
