13 hairstyles from Clueless that we still wear today

by

Trends come and go, but how much do we change our hairstyle, really? As I type this now with a shoulder-ish length, subtly layered bob, I realised I've had this haircut in one iteration or another pretty much all my life, centre-parting notwithstanding.

And in fact, there are - and will always be - that same batch of hairstyles, a hair look book, if you will, that we return to again and again, foolhardedly trying to get right. Each and every single one of them appeared in Clueless. It's true. The iconic 1995 film that informed our clothing tastes, our views on promiscuity and imbibed us with the glorious tones of the Brand New Heavies, is just about as influential on fashion and beauty as, well, Tammy Girl or Topshop.

All of which proves, if anything, that trends are actually the same sort of ideas, just on rotation. Don't believe me? For your visual pleasure, below are 13 hair styles from Clueless that we're still wearing today (or at least, trying to).

1. We're still sporting a post-gym ponytail (ours doesn't look like this)

2. We still rely on the infallible power of volume-injecting velcro rollers - only in the front, mind

3. We're still trying (and largely failing) to look like the picture of sweetness and light in an Alice band

4. We still like to hide our hair under a chic black Beret and pretend to be whimsical and French, on occasion

5. We're still pretty enamoured with the idea of an 'inconspicuous parting', not the middle, not the side

7. We (Lady Gaga) still find inventive uses for old Coca-Cola cans (oh, and we keep finding lone bendy rollers in the back of drawers too)

8. We're still (often inadvertently) doing the windswept, flyaway hair thing but we can't get a brush through it afterwards

9. Though we may be too chicken to get one for real, we can still appreciate the abstract art of a Prada-catwalk inspired micro-fringe

10. We're still taken with the idea of a silver barrette slipped into the side of the hair, even if we're mentally saving it for our wedding day

11. We still adore a set of finely-crafted braids, despite the fact that we haven't gone near crochet since 1998

12. No matter what anyone says, we still feel like a million bucks with a big ol' bouncy blow-dry

13. We're still working out how to do a cracking messy top-knot without the use of a bun ring. We think it involves kirby grips.
