Would you wear the Oscars baby quiff?
Considering the pre-red carpet downpour that threathened to sabotage Oscars beauty, it was heartening to see that several stars still insisted upon taking their somewhere other than swept across one shoulder. And that somewhere was up.
The baby quiff, as we've called it, was out in full force on the red carpet, adding a good two or three inches to an actress's height (very handy for being seen from thirty metres away) and a welcome sense of playfulness and charm.
It's not merely hair frolic though, this is a style that requires guts. Think about it. It's the most exposing way in which you can wear your hair; it reveals every plain of the face, every tiny spot of sun damage, every hairline fracture wrinkle (though it has to be said, these were supsiciously absent last night), every drained pore and speck of last minute limo make-up.
Still, the likes of Naomi Watts, Lupita Nyong'o, Lada Gaga (never one to shy away from a burgeoning hair trend) and even Amy Adams - who generally plays to type with a glossy, amber mane - all chimed in unison with an added kick of height to their 'do's.
Perhaps it's something to do with the optimistic geometry of the quiff, but there's something quite er, uplifting, about this style, it doesn't hide its wearer away under a side fringe or a cascade of waves. It's ballsy, direct, rich in glamour and a little brash, perfect for Hollywood's biggest night of the year then.
The only question that remains is whether you, I and the rest of the female population of the world will be adopting the baby quiff into our own arsenal of hair styles. The Never Underdressed team is divided. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
