Scorsese plus Scarlett and Matthew equals one dreamy new D&G campaign
You’d never expect fashion duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana to hold back in life, would you? Subtlety and discretion are certainly not their forte. From beautiful lace garments and expensive leather bags to Mediterranean super-yacht parties and high profile clients, the Dolce and Gabbana ethos is one of extravagance, indulgence and overt luxury.
So the recent sighting of their latest campaign in the making, starring Scarlett Johansson and Matthew McConaughey and directed by the award-winning Martin Scorsese, doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Of course it would feature two of Hollywood’s most good looking pin-ups and be set against the hip brownstones of New York’s West Village. Scarlett clad in an intricately laced black number and Matthew in a dapper, jet black suit, tie loose at the neck, it looks to be quite the campaign for the fashion house. And did I mention they’re cruising along in a vintage Alfa Romeo sports car – because – what else?
It’s not the first time these handsome two have worked it for D&G, oh no. They’ve appeared in ads for the One Desire and One Gentleman fragrances already, but this time looks to be more of an old-Hollywood vibe. Scarlett’s gently waved, retro hair, falling loosely around her hairline, that heavily rouged 50s cheek and graceful feline eye flick all make a clear nod to old-school elegance. She’s always looked slightly Monroe-esque in campaigns gone by, but looking at this it’s Scarlett as a grown-up. She’s matured into those plump lips, got a bit more authority in those dazzling blue eyes and looks, well, a bit more sure of herself. Excitement mounts to see the finished product.
