A Milan base for Mugler, a brand in flux
Mugler is to open its very first store later this month, selling menswear, womenswear and accessories in a 90-square-metre space in Milan.
The store has been designed to reflect the brand’s aesthetics, marrying cutting-edge, almost futuristic elements with traditionally Italian architectural features.
Presently, Mugler is only available in department stores but there are two more standalone stores planned after the Milanese opening, one in Paris and one in Hong Kong.
The Mugler house is currently in a state of flux following the departure of Nicola Formichetti as creative director in April, and is seeking to recruit a creative director who will oversee both the fashion and the fragrance arms of the brand. Its eponymous founder, Thierry Mugler, who now goes by the name of Manfred Mugler, is involved with the brand in a creative adviser role but continues to focus on other areas, including the direction of a cabaret spectacle called Mugler Follies, which will premiere in Paris in December.
