Dolce & Gabbana: the Italian gent hits London
What do you get when you cross the groomed English gentleman with the Italian guy who taught the world to be suave? The new Dolce & Gabbana menswear store on New Bond Street, if Saturday night's event in honour of London Collections: Men, kicking off with catwalk shows Sunday, is anything to go by.
Indeed, the design duo brought a taste of Italy to the new London store as they showcased men's pieces to the sound of opera, with live pieces by Puccini performed by singers (wearing Dolce and diamonds, of course) while models walked the store wearing the latest men's Dolce & Gabbana pieces.
Decked out in antique country furniture, alongside louche Italian touches, in the form of flock wallpaper and carpets springier than a trampoline, the new store is the perfect combination of the classic English gentleman and the glamourous Italian stud, which guests including London fashion pioneer Lulu Kennedy agreed was beautiful. Quite frankly, we want to live there.
The final concession to the store's Britishness: Andy Warhol-inspired paintings of Prince William and Kate Middleton by artist Mr Brainwash, flanking the main sales desk.
Wouldn't you love to see that pair in co-ordinating Dolce & Gabbana?
