Oh nah nah: Rihanna sues Topshop
Popstar and sex machine Rihanna is said to be suing Topshop, The New York Post reported today, after the high street chain used a photo image of her on a vest top currently on sale.
The two have been in negotiations to resolve the issue for several months, with Rihanna spending almost £1m in litigation fees, but Topshop's compensatory offer to her came to a mere £5,000. Philip Green, Topshop CEO, is protected by the fact that UK law declares that only the photographer who owns this image can claim rights, while the person depicted cannot. Tough titty, perhaps – but that's what you get for signing a deal to do clothes with a rival high street chain.
It was bad enough for Beyoncé, who banned photographers from her world tour after the internet spawned memes and virals of her in a (rare) unflattering pose; imagine being Ri-Ri and stepping out of your house only to be confronted with an army of Topshop-clad fans, all covered in your face.
