Swedish Princess Madeleine marries in Valentino
Valentino has designed the wedding dress of Princess Madeleine of Sweden, who married British-born banker Christopher O’Neill in Stockholm yesterday.
The dress was an elegant, modern affair with a Chantilly lace top covering the shoulders but proportions were kept princessy, and the gown boasted a four-metre train and a six-metre veil. (The sketch is above, the reality below.)
Valentino has a track record of creating wedding dresses for famous clients, having designed Anne Hathaway’s wedding dress when she married Adam Shulman, as well as gowns for the weddings of Jacqueline Onasiss, Queen Maxima of Holland and Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece.
The new royal couple, who met when Princess Madeleine moved to New York to work at her mother’s children’s charity and continue to live in the US, were cheered on by European royals (including a solo Princess Charlene of Monaco, who attended without her husband, Prince Albert) and East Coast financiers, as well as by Valentino himself.
