The Propagandist: April 25 – May 1
We tell you what to do
Hit the road: Kings Cross Filling station is gearing up for a second summer of canal-side sunshine (hopefully) and prosecco (most definitely), but before the first cork pops, the silver-screen will be rolling onto the forecourt for Everyman Cinemas’ Road Movies. The series includes al fresco screenings of Easy Rider (April 25), Natural Born Killers (April 25), Thelma & Louise (April 28), Badlands (May 1) and a selection of other highway classics until May 6. Headphones are provided to block out the noise of the actual road, and you can grab a blanket to protect against the brisk British spring. Booze and hot-dogs will of course be in abundance.
East meets South: The delicate food of Japan isn’t the most obvious match for the American Deep South’s bodacious barbecue, but on Monday April 29, East London cook-house Duke’s Brew and Que will be kicking off their ‘Duke’s Fusion’ series by joining forces with easterly-inclined Masterchef winner, Tim Anderson, to coax the two cuisines into a deliciously harmonious marriage. Tables for the ticket-only event are being snapped up fast so keep an eye on Duke’s Brew and Que’s Twitter feed for last-minute availability.
Be Awesome: Hadley Freeman’s latest book, Be Awesome: Modern Life for Modern Ladies, is published on April 25, so you should not only read it, but take heed from Hadley and do some pretty awesome things. Her suggestions include ‘lying on the sofa all day in your pyjamas watching Murder She Wrote and eating peanut butter straight out of the jar’, and here’s some of ours: balance your lap-top a safe distance from the bath and binge-watch a series of your choice on Netflix while you soak; get your friend, an armful of glossies and some G&T and start building your new season wardrobe. Tell us that won’t make you feel awesome.
Honey to the Bey: the Mrs Carter tour hits the UK this week with shows in Birmingham from April 26, followed by London on April 29, and while tickets to see Beyoncé’s turn as Sasha Fierce sold like tickets to a Ryan Gosling kissing booth, you can indulge in Bey-fever without one. Get your mates round and learn the Single Ladies dance via this brilliant YouTube tutorial or get an insight into the superstar’s life on the road with a viewing of her recent HBO documentary Life Is But a Dream. Plus, if you get on Instagram and Vine you’ll no doubt see the shows posted real-time.
Make a movie: well, sort of. Scrubs star, and thinking-girls’ heart throb, Zach Braff wants you to help make his new movie, a follow up to Garden State, the indie-hit that he wrote, directed and starred in, and is crowd-sourcing funds via Kickstarter. He needs $2,000,000 to get it off the ground, but with his face and Reddit following, he’ll no doubt drum up the dough. Question is: will you get your name in the credits if you contribute?
