Face is too tight to Menschn
Of all the people you’d want to confess to about having had a sneaky facelift, Jeremy Paxman probably isn’t first choice. It’d be like telling a ferocious, angry dad. But ex-MP and subject of many a dinner party argument Louise Mensch did just that, ending long-term speculation as to the veracity of her visage and its remarkable upward velocity.
‘I had a little tightening in my face,’ she told Paxo via a video link-up on last night’s Newsnight, having demurred from answering the same question in an interview with the Guardian in 2011. Well, duh: nobody thought it was the New York fresh air, or indeed the fragrant waft of Tory policy, that got her looking like that.
Twitter went duly berserk, with accusations of lying and dishonesty while in office. Mensch’s defence was that she simply hadn’t answered the question – and why should she? ‘As soon as I do that you become the minister for mascara’, she told The Guardian, irked by pressure on female MPs to look good at all times – a scrutiny which isn’t brought to bear on their male counterparts.
Perhaps the answer is, put simply, it’s none of our business. (Although we’ll be on Wildenstein watch, just in case.)
