Daft Punk cover up at the VMAs – in Saint Laurent, of course

Daft Punk attend the VMA awards in New York last night

The best thing about being in Daft Punk is that if you don’t want to partake in the twerking circus (twerkus?) that is the VMAs these days, then you don’t have to. You can simply send a minion in your signature mask to show face – or not, as the case may be. You never know though, perhaps it was the electro-fiddlers themselves, breaking records for having the least flesh on show at MTV’s recent skin-parade.

Could there be a cooler fash-clash than electro music boys Daft Punk and Saint Laurent? Were Pulp Fiction ever to be remade in space, this is what we could expect John Travolta and Samuel L.Jackson to be sporting: exquisitely cut smoking jackets, tuxedo trousers and black space helmets. Throw in some sparkly boots and gold metal gauntlets which coordinate with their gold-trimmed, obligatory helmets and it just works. I'm not sure how dressing like a high fashion gangster in space works but it most definitely does.

Daft Punk were looking very dapper at the VMAs, very handsome in their Saint Laurent suits. And those Cuban heel glittery boots are pretty fabulous. It helps, of course that their mate Heidi Slimane has been designing their wardrobe (costumes?) for the last decade. You can’t go far wrong with Slimane on your side.
