Sarah Silverman wears yellow to the American Music Awards

Sarah gets some sartorial brownie points in my book for not being boring with her use of colour. That bright yellow is a favoured colour for  spring 2014, so she is already ahead of the game and it looks amazing with her raven locks. Not a huge fan of the shoes (I really don’t like a platform high heel) but it’s just a small niggle.

Yellow with black is such a brilliant colour combination – whether it's on a front door, a handbag or a comedian. So Ms Silverman's jet black hair and thick black eyebrows look bloody great with this dress - and I like to think the acidity of the yellow reflects her acid humour too. If you think back to some other red carpets that Sarah has been on in years past, dressed in billowing wedding cake dresses, this is definitely a less-is-more approach. It suits her too.

Top marks for Silver Sarahman (as my friend calls her) for getting into the yellow trend ahead of most other people and also for acting as a public health notice that says, healthily and happily, 'See? You don't have to be a bronzed beach bum to pull off yellow!' It's fresh and fashionable with her pale skin, but for the most part it's just really cool. Bonus points for keeping everything else fairly low-key, and for the clean, modern make-up.
