7 things you didn't know about Kit Harington

by

As the third series of Game of Thrones came to a spectacular close on TV, a mere few hours earlier we were in the presence of one of its stars Kit Harington, who was in town to talk about being the the face of Jimmy Choo Man (the label's first male fragrance). Devoid of cumbersome leather and bear skins, he was clad in a snappy blue and white suit, but thankfully the 'Jon Snow' curls were still intact (he is contractually obliged not to cut them off - which pleases us no end).

Kit cut a very dashing figure, in stark (excuse the pun) contrast to his famous character Jon Snow. Indeed, when asked to describe the 'Jimmy Choo man', Sandra Choi, Jimmy Choo's Creative Director, remarked: '[He] encompasses all the qualities of the Mayfair Playboy – a confident, overtly masculine style with a refined sense of detail. He is both a gentleman and a little bit of a player; he is an elegant dandy who can pull off a smart, evening smoking slipper as well as a more experimental trainer.'

We're not sure what Jon Snow's burly comrades at The Wall would make of this description, but it seemed very apt for the ever-so-suave actor we met with yesterday.

And so, because it may very well be a long while before we happen across Jon Snow again, we've rounded up seven facts you won't already know about Kit Harington (unless of course, you're a super SUPER fan), in which case, right on...

1. He is of noble lineage

Kit grew up in London and Worcester, his mother was a playwright and named him after Kit Marlowe. His family tree includes Sir Richard Harington, the 12th Baronet Harington, Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville, and Sir William Molesworth, 6th Baronet. Aside from Game of Thrones, Kit has enjoyed a successful acting career in theatre and film and was the original lead in War Horse. Has also been recently gracing our cinema screens in big-budget action movie Pompeii.

(NB: As a Londoner playing a northerner, Kit modelled his Yorkshire accent in Game of Thrones on that of Sean Bean.)

2. Don't expect a Downton Abbey cameo anytime soon ...

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Kit famously remarked about the show (in which ex-girlfriend Rose Leslie previously appeared): 'I really disagree with Downton Abbey on lots of f*****g levels. It celebrates the class system, and its kind of overall message seems to be: 'Wasn't it good when everybody knew their place within society?' Why should we hark back to those times? It was bulls**t. We got out of that, and thank the f**k we did.'

As well as his work on Game of Thrones, Harrington recently wrapped filming on How To Train Your Dragon 2, out next month and BBC WW1 drama Testament of Youth, which will be shown later this year. And there's obviously Season 5 of Game of Thrones to look forward to - we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for a release date.

3. He's a bit of a James Dean (but is partial to an evening slipper)

When asked about his style yesterday, Kit had this to say: 'I would like to say English Gent but I think I am pushing it a bit there, as I tend to be a little bit scruffy when I am off-duty. I tend to live in jeans, a T-shirt and a great leather jacket and some boots.'

He was a fan of some of the footwear showcased at yesterday's Jimmy Choo LCM presentation. 'My favourite shoes from the collection are actually the biker boots. I’m into this style, as I can throw them on whenever, they are super easy and go with everything. I also love how they get better with age. I also really like some of the more formal styles, the evening slippers and the Prescott lace up brogues; they are great for when I'm walking the red carpet.'

It's safe to say Kit does better in the style-stakes than his alter-ego Jon Snow, who possesses one single outfit - the black armour of the Night's Watch (although this does include a rather fetching woollen cloak).

4. He's a 'wine man'

'I'm partial to a whiskey-based cocktail like an Old Fashioned. Or else a glass of white wine - I'm definitely a wine man.'

5. He hangs out in Mayfair

'There’s a place called Shepherd’s Market which has some brilliant little pubs and little restaurants. It is right in the heart of Mayfair, but it feels like a hidden secret and is quintessentially British.' Kit recently visited LA to shoot the Jimmy Choo Man campaign with Peter Lindbergh: 'The location was really cool with stunning architecture and panoramic views across LA.' (Must make a change from slightly chilly conditions at The Wall...)

6. He dates his co-workers

Kit famously dated co-star Rose Leslie (Ygritte) and has since been linked to Emilia Clarke (Daenerys). We're hoping Kit and Rose's real life break-up was more amicable than that of their Game of Thrones characters Jon and Ygritte (she put three arrows in him after they broke up.) Fans are apparently rooting for a union between Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen in the next series, so art may possibly imitate life once again.

7. He feels very protective over his scent

As its new face - we're guessing Kit is partial to the odd spritz of Jimmy Choo Man - an aromatic fougère with crisp notes of mandarin, citrus and honeydew melon.' 'To me, scent is very personal to a man. Jimmy Choo Man is very fresh, it's dynamic. It's also a party boy fragrance - in the best possible way.' We imagine its a step-up from how Jon Snow might smell (we're guessing sweat, blood with base notes of dire-wolf slobber)

Jimmy Choo Man is available August 11th at Harrods priced at £62 for 100ml
