The Oscars herald a new age of bare-faced beauty

by

So it's finally here, the night Tinseltown's been waiting for. We've already given you the heads up on the make-up artists to follow on Instagram, oh and a nostalgic romp through the best Oscars beauty of all time, but now it's time to see the looks that actually made their way down the red carpet and into the Dolby theatre. And guess what. There's one hell of a lot of natural, barely-there make-up.

Well, okay, so maybe it's not a huge surprise. Traditionally Oscars beauty errs on the side of caution. But this is a whole other level of natural.

Cate Blanchett was the first we spotted. Beautiful blonde retro waves, but not a scrap of overt colour on her face, save for a generous coating of inky black mascara. Then followed Jessica Biel, more tonal nude on nude with just the merest hint of a healthy pink lip. Charlize Theron, Kate Hudson and even Lady Gaga, are all towing the natural line too. In fact, there can't be a make-up artist in the whole of LA who hasn't spent the last three hours perfecting a vision of supernatural complexion with a custom concealer palette.
