The 10 beauty director-approved spring scents

by

I am notoriously fickle when it comes to fragrance. I don't know whether it comes from a place of greed or impatience, or some sort of magpie sensibility that unconsciously draws me to shiny things, but I rarely wear the same one two days in a row. Because, to put it simply, there are just far too many beautiful smells to be faithful to just one.

This is why I quite enjoy the gifts the spring; all that newness, the promise of sunny days and daisy fields and the light veil of scent on a clavicle. Spring is a harvest for new fragrances; new combinations of flower notes, of crisp green botanicals and folded linen. Spring scents are cleaner somehow, lighter and coax even the most reluctant of scent-wearers out from the cold and into a world of smells.

It's also a time that allows us all a moment to stop, rethink and re-equip ourselves with a fragrance that's more in keeping with who we are now, or of course, who we want to be. And in my case, this is a modern-day version of a 70s Jane Birkin skipping through fields wearing broderie anglaise and freckles. Because, the greatest thing of all about fragrance is that it can, in some small way, turn you into the person you want to be.

So, in the hope of dialling down the burden of choice, I've hand-picked my favourite 10 scents of spring - and I mean unforgettably beautiful, wearable and addictive in the world today..
