Alexander Wang's mystery event

by

An intriguing message went up on the Alexander Wang Twitter account last night, announcing an event taking place on the New York highline on Saturday.

I hesitate to even call it an event, so cryptic was the call to arms, but you can expect to it be fashion-y and fabulous. A summer party, perhaps, much like the one that Stella McCartney held there last month to unveil her resort collection. Clearly, the New York Highline is the place to be – and there you were thinking all it was good for was perving on the exhibitionists getting down to it in the 'special rooms' at the Standard.

It's something of a mission statement from Wang, perhaps, indicating that his tenure at the Parisian house Balenciaga won't take his attentions away from his own New-York-at-heart brand, which started out as a love letter to the city's off-duty models and has latterly developed into an ode to American sportswear, with a dash of sci-fi futurism.

'I knew I wasn't moving to Paris full-time,' Wang tells US Harper's Bazaar in its August issue. 'I'll do a 100 fittings a week. I have separate iPhones for separate ideas.'

'People thought I wouldn't be able to do two things at once, but for me that was the most exciting part,' he adds, admitting he rarely leaves work before 11pm. (Finally, something you have in common with a high-end fashion designer!)
