Is Isabel Marant for H&M the best collab yet?

by

Isabel Marant is the latest designer recruit to create a collection for high street giant H&M. On sale from November 14th, it will be available in 250 stores worldwide and online featuring signature pieces from the French label and debut a menswear collection too. Yes, he too can wear a Moonsfield intarsia wool-blend sweater. Divine.

Following previous collections by Karl Largerfeld, Matthew Williamson, Versace and Stella McCartney, it's an excellent move by H&M. Why? Retailers can't stock Isabel Marant fast enough. Always sold out, there are endless waiting lists for her black Beckett trainers and Ikat jackets and she's the brand every store names as an instant sell out whether it’s for £1,600 leather pants or a £200 cheesecloth top from her diffusion line Etoile.

There's some grumbling on Twitter this morning that the high street is already heavily inspired by Marant's collections anyway. What’s the point? Walk in to any Zara now and there’s a section in homage to her spring summer collection. But isn't it great that we can go straight to the source? Far better to collaborate with a brand there's already an affinity with rather than trying to do couture for £40. This collaboration doesn't inspire a 'what will it be like' reaction, I know exactly what I want to buy already (cropped jeans, might try a wedge trainer at last, an embellished cotton jacket, please God let there be leather) and that is joyously reassuring.

We predict this collection will inspire crowds far greater that we have seen already. And it won't go on eBay shortly afterwards.
