If you’re looking for cool, modern and unfussy pieces you’re unlikely to see on anybody but the most in-the-know fashion insiders or American expats, then Jen Kao is the designer for you.

Her eponymous label is a favourite with our Global Style ambassador Victoria Sekrier (below in Jen Kao) who knows exactly how to style the separates for a perfect laidback but luxe look, and Kao is set to pick up a whole new band of devotees after showing a confident resort 2014 collection last week (main picture).

Kao – who happens to be the daughter of the billionaire behind Garmin and was brought up in Kansas before studying at NYU and Parsons – is creating minimalist pieces that are eminently wearable and quietly chic. Currently, her collections are only available online in Europe but given the industry buzz that surrounds the New York designer, it seems inevitable that buyers will begin to take note.

Get in there before she becomes ubiquitous.
