Marni reminds us that the dark can be beautiful
The clocks have gone back and life is about to get darker, dimmer, greyer. Winter is here.
Grey doesn’t have to be depressing however as Marni has shown with their autumn/winter 2013 film; grey can be romantic, beautiful even.
In a two-minute piece called The Gray Garden, Marni’s autumn collection is showcased against the backdrop of a shadowy dark forest, with the black and white film occasionally bursting into colour to highlight the clothes. Music by the contemporary Italian composer Emanuele Scataglini is pacy but murky mystery remains.
The film sums up the appeal of darkness, and is a nice little reminder of all that is good about the coming months.
