Meet Fashion's Iron Girls
If there’s one thing that isn’t going out of fashion any time soon, it’s a strong woman. Everywhere you look, there are heroines and role models galore, as the world (and that includes fashion) comes to terms with the glorious fact that we aren’t interested in princesses and fairies anymore.
In celebration of all the recent revelling in being right-on, MatchesFashion has partnered with the stylist-turned-Scandi-designer, and independent publisher, Ulrika Lundgren, to showcase a selection of portraits that aim to show all sides of the this new feminine toughness and can-do attitude.
The likes of Julianne Moore (and her daughter Liv Helen), Dree Hemingway and Josephine de la Baume have been shot for the project by Helena Christensen, each wearing one of Lundgren’s ‘iron Girl’ motif sweaters and have spoken about who they feel today’s ‘strong woman’ really is, and what shapes her.
‘My aunt Margauxx,’ offers Hemingway. ‘She had this light that surrounded that would bring joy to anyone.’
Julianne Moore meanwhile asserts that great style comes from originality, and Parisian uber-stylist Catherine Baba believe ‘strength is serenity’.
‘We were delighted when Rika approached us,’ says Matches’ co-founder Ruth Chapman. ‘The concept of powerful, inspirational women and their personal style is close to our heart.’
The portraits, which will be published in the September edition of the Rika magazine, will be launched with a party at the boutique’s London townhouse tomorrow night, with the subjects and snapper Christensen in attendance.
And the Iron Girl sweater meanwhile is available to buy from MatchesFashion in four shades (the cobalt blue version, below, is an exclusive) today, so you can flex your own fashion muscle too.
