Another fashion docu to add to our list of favourites
This week, it was announced that the 2013 Council of Fashion Designers of America/Vogue Fashion Fund competition process will be documented for a US TV series, which will follow the competitors, Todd Snyder and Parabellum's Jason Jones and Mike Feldman, as they vie for a $300,000 prize and mentorship opportunities.
Featuring the constantly fascinating Anna Wintour, as well as Diane von Furstenberg and Jenna Lyons, it will be like a more sophisticated Project Runway, granting publicity to talented young designers who need it and giving viewers an insight into the reality of running a label and brand. It's not the first time the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund has been the subject of scrutiny; in 2005, when Proenza Schouler's Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez competed for the funding, a film called Seamless profiled the process and, of course, Anna Wintour and US Vogue were the subject of much scrutiny when The September Issue portrayed the reality, tedium and all, of putting an issue of US Vogue together.
As well as documentaries and reality shows focusing on a process or aspect of an industry, like magazine production or modelling agencies, we're equally interested in those that have discovered fashion is populated by fascinating engaging and passionate characters. So there is the new German piece that compares Karl Lagerfeld to the pope (it’s not like they’re saying he’s God, just God’s representative on earth, which seems almost fair) and the brilliant Bill Cunningham New York.
