Street style these days just seems to be a bunch of extravagantly dressed, fantastically good looking people. It was fun for a while, but now we kind of just feel numb to it. We want a palette cleanser. Something that feels genuine and real. Something that's inspiring because it's achievable even if you're a normal person with a normal life holding down a normal job.

And if there was ever a bunch of women who knew how to look stylish within limited means it was the make-do-and-menders of World War II. Because it couldn't be about swaddling yourself in luxurious brands or fabrics, it became about your attitude. How you inventively put a look together and the little noteworthy details. A beautiful hat. An artfully placed brooch. The immaculately tied headscarf...
