A joyously out-there bride and groom
As celebrity and civilian wedding season trundles on, the visuals become predictable: a frothy, lacy gown; an intricate updo; a respectably attired Middleton in attendance. We know what to expect.
And then, occasionally, a wedding comes along that explodes the very notion of what nuptials should look like and you breathe a great big sigh of relief. Even if that relief has undertones of an I-wouldn’t-choose-that-look-personally attitude.
Last year, the renegade bride was Mary Charteris is a Pam Hogg look, and this weekend, we had a rebellious couple, photographer and screenwriter Charlotte Boulay-Goldsmith and designer Phillip Colbert.
The bride’s skirt and cropped jacket were insouciantly chic and unexpectedly low-key for a wedding. The outfit was playful yet womanly and the netting over the face added a hit of glamour.
The groom’s get-up meanwhile was just absolutely bonkers. We’re told the red figures that adorned the slim-cut, three-piece black suit are lobsters, but you could easily be forgiven for thinking that they were something ruder.
It’s not a look for everyone. And yet it so unreservedly fun, so ridiculously outré that you cannot help but be won over.
Looking at the complete and unadulterated glee on the newlyweds’ faces as they emerged from the East London ceremony on Saturday, makes me wish all wedding outfits could be as OTT.
