Diana Vreeland once said ‘it’s not about the dress you wear, but it’s about the life you lead in the dress’. That’s certainly the case for another famous Diana, the Princess of Wales, whose clothes regularly auction for phenomenal figures (the dress she danced with John Travolta in went for £240,000) thanks to the fact that she wore them. The latest of her items to go on sale is an Escada tie, worn with a co-ordinating Elephant-cuff suit in 1994, which is set to fetch £3000 at auction (a steal compared to the Travolta dress). 

A new-found interest in the life Diana has arisen this week with the arrival of a trailer for the much-anticipated biopic Diana, starring Naomi Watts. Whether or not it will classily tell the Princess’ story in the way that My Week with Marilyn did for Marilyn Monroe, or if it will scale the dizzy heights of made-for-TV cheese that Liz ‘n’ Dick, or Man in the Mirror: The Michael Jackson story managed, but one thing’s for certain, the fashion, in all of its skirt-suit and nautical blazer glory, is bang on.
