Rihanna does double denim in new Balmain campaign

Rihanna has become the latest popstar to front a high-end fashion campaign, as Women's Wear Daily debuted the imagery of a spring 14 collaboration with the Parisian house Balmain. It comes only a month after Lady Gaga starred in the new season's Versace adverts.

In the pictures, shot by the busiest photogrpahers in the business Inez and Vinoodh, Rihanna is wearing a strapless denim top, banded with the chains that were a motif of the collection, with some stonewash jeans. A kimono-esque housecoat in baby pink houndstooth is worn with a pair of gold-tipped lace booties. 

It makes a certain amount of fashion sense – under Olivier Rousteing's creative direction, the brand has focussed on the luxe-ification of streetwear style, using denim and 'bling' to great effect, when woven in with the more traditional codes of the house – houndstooth and tailoring. That sort of high/low mix is something that Rihanna practically invented.

'When she is in front of the camera, she makes you feel like she is the only girl in the world,' Rousteing told WWD, in a less catchy paraphrase of the singer's biggest hit.
