How to dress your face for the Carnival
It’s true. No really, I was utterly shocked as well but new figures stating that there will be two and a half million people – that’s TWO AND A HALF MILLION people – at Notting Hill Carnival this weekend are correct. Gulp. That’s bloody masses.
As usual, it’ll be a flamboyant affair, or at least the 50,000 dancers attending will be dressed up to the nines. Subtlety was never carnival’s thing and it’s certainly a chance to go all out and over the top, which is always fun.
Now there’s the dancers and there’s the revellers, and you, my friend, are most likely a reveller. The kind drinking beer and eating jerk chicken and swinging your hips at every music float you waltz past. And strange as it might seem, there’s been a few A-list appearances at carnivals across the globe throughout the years. Like Gisele in Rio back in 2011, kitted out in a gold embellished mini dress and killer smoky eye, throwing some shapes in the city’s streets. And Beyoncé, who carnival-ed in New York in 2000, with pigtails and rose tinted specs and those Destiny’s Child dance moves.
