I don’t think I’m alone in saying that I get a real buzz out of a newly unpackaged lipstick, all shiny and unscratched and ready for business. Or a heavy, gold mascara wand immaculate and gloop-free upon unscrewing the lid. There’s something rather Christmas-like about a new beauty purchase – you can’t help but feel giddy with excitement.

And even though I’m a beauty writer and see new trinkets and finds on a daily basis, the novelty has not worn off. Not at all. But admittedly, my attention of late has definitely diverted a little; my tastes has gone a bit high maintenance. 

I blame it on the swarm of innovative new launches that are flooding the beauty market. Like, really inspired new things that you didn’t even realise you needed in your life. Things I can guarantee you don’t have already but really, really need. They’re life-changing, honestly.
