Introducing Ungrateful Fashion Face

by

You've heard of Bitchy Resting Face, now meet Ungrateful Fashion Face. It's an expression on the increase, coming to a red carpet near you, and we at Never Underdressed are trying hard to fathom its origins.

Foremost perpetrator is Lily Collins, currently out on the circuit hawking her goth-lite, faux-Twilight vehicleThe Mortal Instruments hard. She's been spotted and snapped in a dazzling of Valentino, Roland Mouret, Halston, McQueen, Stella McCartney... And she's looked down in the dumps throughout.

There are of course any number of explanations for this: she's camera-shy and understandably nervous given the hoardes of shouty men waving lenses in her face; she's homesick on the premiere tour for this slightly odd film and wants her mum; she's remembered how embarrassing her dad is; she's remembered how embarrassing this film she's in is.

Or, quite simply, she doesn't care about fashion, wants to be a serious actress known for her on-screen posturing rather than her red carpet posing and wishes she could attend the premiere wearing a cardigan covered in egg.

Which is perfectly fine if you're promoting an artsy film.

Welcome to Ungrateful Fashion Face, pioneered by Kristen Stewart whose adolescent prerogative it is never to smile on the red carpet. And why indeed should these dolly birds be forced to grin and simper for their art by a culture that values their looks over and above their brains and demands ever so slightly less demeaning behaviour from their male counterparts? I quite agree.
