Tory Burch’s new job as make-up maker
Just as my rose printed summer Vans from Tory Burch are beginning to wear out comes the news that the designer is venturing into the beauty world. Oh well, I suppose when one door closes another one opens, but really I’d like to have worn my Tory Burch vans and lipstick together. Oh well, such is life (*logs onto eBay*).
According to WWD, the designer will launch her first fragrance, make-up line and body collection with Estée Lauder next month. ‘We first discussed the possibility at least five years ago — I know Leonard [Lauder] and knew Evelyn [Lauder] and we knew that at some point we would want to work together,’ she said. And Tory put her money where her mouth is back in 2011, signing a contract with the brand to oversee her creations.
It seems the new project was full of exciting times for Burch. ‘I loved going into the labs — there were scents and notes that I never thought would go in a fragrance,’ she said. ‘I was going for tomboy meets feminine, and I wanted the vetiver because not only did my father wear it, I did too and so did my brothers. Then we looked at how we could mix it with citrus and florals — I’ve always loved tuberose.’
Back to the make-up. Word is that it’ll be typically Tory colours to match those silk blouses and pencil skirts. She’s created a lipstick inspired by her signature shade, titled Pas du Tout, which is a highly flattering pinky-nude colour. Then there’s cheek tints, bronzers, the lot. And always going the extra mile, the make-up pieces are each scented with notes that Tory chose herself – cassis, grapefruit, manadarin – for that subtle touch of luxury. Course they are.
You’ll have to wait though; the collection doesn’t launch until 26 September into Harrods. Ah, just in time for Paris Fashion Week then. Even better is the snippet that the legendary Patrick Demarchelier shot the campaign, and Tory herself is in it. Well, judging by her own Instagram feed and effortless American beauty, it’ll be a corker.
