It's app-ening on the beauty front
Beauty apps have been firmly on the up in the last year or so. Like, completely dominating the download charts (sorry, Snapchat) and coming out of the woodwork faster that you can say Lancôme . Reason being is that they’re getting so damn advanced and forward-thinking, women are quickly realising that they’re as essential as, well, Spotify or Instagram and any other modern on-the-go application.
Upping the ante (and blowing all others out of the water) is hot newcomer from New York, ModiFace. In a brief and not too techy nutshell, this virtual makeover app allows for advanced make-up and skincare visualisation from any recognised brand. Like, everything from foundation matching to trying out a cat-eye flick to even ridiculously snazzy effects like seeing what a skin highlighter will do for your face.
This is revolutionary, people. Serious, life-changing stuff. Just think about it – no wrong foundation purchases because you couldn’t try the shade before you parted with the cash. No dodgy lip colours that make your skin look sallow and ill.
But the thing is, with the increasing 3D scope that beauty brings with it these days such as scented lipstick bullets, instant lifting serums and gel blushers that you can intensify with the heat of your hand upon application, can it ever really beat the visceral, satisfying fun that actually trying out products can bring? Perhaps not. Though having said that, we still want to give it a whirl. Even just to see whether it gets our Touche Éclat shade spot on.
