How to look like Twiggy and other 60s icons. In 5 minutes flat
The 60s was a winner of a decade. A real stonker on all fronts; fashion, film, you name it. Awesome paisley prints, Jackie O style sunglasses, the whole Biba spectacle, the first man landed on the moon, the contraceptive pill was founded, the list goes on and on.
And that’s before you get to the parade of cultural obsessions that those ten years birthed. Like proper old school movies - Alfred Hitchcock’s Phsycho, the very beautiful Dr. Zhivago, Bonnie and Clyde - which captured hearts and minds across the nation, songs that still influence pop culture today. It's as hard to imagine how the terribly named 'noughties' will ever compare.
And alongside said movies came the stars. The beyond beautiful, youthful beings who became the faces of the decade. Talented and slightly naïve, their beauty was as mesmerising as their Oscar winning film roles (here’s looking at you, Liz Taylor). There’s no question that doe-eyed Julie Andrews, who wowed in 1965 movie The Sound of Music, was a vision of elegance that women everywhere wanted to be. And the ever flirtatious Bardot, whose inviting stare and butter-wouldn't-melt eyes quickly became much talked about, for both men and women.
No one can forget Audrey Hepburn’s sensational part in 1961 hit, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Honestly, there are no words. Like an angel sent from above, she mesmerised viewers with her capturing beauty and wonderful persona. Full lashes that were black as the night and gently curled, the kind of subtle-but-there cheekbone contouring that most can only dream of. A legend in her own right, but just one of many stars those years brought forth.
The greatest beauties from the 60s are in the gallery above. Alongside them is the key product to get their look. Simple as that. So the hard work’s been done for you – all that’s left to do is click through and choose which icon you’re going to try. Today’s a Brigitte Bardot day for me.
