Emma Cook loves zebras, launches new collection

by

Designer Emma Cook is a London girl through and through – her witty and irreverent collections, her sense of whimsy and of fun, and her love of animals are what make her inimitable printwork so well loved and consistently successful.

'The prints develop over a long period of time,' she explains. 'The shapes are always simple and easy to handle the print. They are very layered with things we love or sometimes find funny.'

Cook's autumn 2013 collection launches this weekend on Net-a-Porter, with a video created especially – watch below – and features all manner of items set to go cult. (Dinosaur knit anyone? I want five, one for every day of the week.)

'There is an awful lot of print around at the moment,' she agrees, speaking from her London studio. 'It does make it harder to do something different. We just design things that we would love to wear – we're a tiny team so it's very personal.'

For personal, read often quaint and heart-achingly sweet – it was Cook who designed all the life-size animal hats for the autumn 2010 Topshop Unique show, styled by Katie Grand (a friend) and focused on all things woodland and cutesy.

But that knowing sort of hyper-twee isn't really Emma Cook's bag; her personal tastes are rather more exotic. 'I do love a zebra!' she laughs.
