Anthropologie's little sister, Free People, arrives in the UK

by

The people who brought us Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie have another brand landing in the UK this summer with Free People now available in a pop-up shop in Selfridges.

If the Anthropologie woman is a 30-year-old who has just bought her first flat, and is consequently developing a love of homeware as well as fashion, then the Free People girl is her younger sister, who doesn’t have a mortgage yet and spends her disposable income on boho-influenced clothing and festival tickets.

Free People has previously used American models like Karlie Kloss and Crystal Renn but as the brand plans on breaking Europe – as well as the pop-up, Women’s Wear Daily reports today that they have opened a wholesale space in Marylebone with the intention to expand into the UK, France, Spain, Italy and Germany – they have turned to British celebrity model Daisy Lowe for their latest campaign.

In addition to posing for the Free People look book, Lowe appears in a whimsical little short film, shot by Guy Laroche, which charts her ultimately successful attempts to get it on with her handsome neighbour (her tactics include lounging in underwear, pretending to bake and pretending to read a newspaper).

The Free People price point is similar to that of Urban Outfitters with jumpers and dresses costing about £100 a pop, and Free People is at Selfridges until the end of July.
