Oxfam like you've never seen it before
Oxfam has collaborated with vintage expert William Banks-Blaney, supermodel Jacquetta Wheeler and photographer Guy Aroch to create a campaign celebrating the charity’s 70 years on the high street.
Banks-Blaney, who styled the shoot, which aims to ‘challenge the perception of what a trip to your local Oxfam can produce’, says, ‘I wanted to show the relevance of vintage and second hand clothing and to show how beautifully pieces from different decades can work together.’
And forget what you think you know about Oxfam and its knobbly cardigans and £3 DVDs; the Aroch images show an ever-graceful Wheeler draped in flowing gowns and delicate jumpsuits, reclining in elegant surroundings.
Wheeler, who along with Aroch waived her fee for the job, is impressed by the outcome and likes the notion of rifling through charity shops to unearth something special. ‘I think there is a lot to be said about being a little bit more adventurous,’ she says. ‘It’s fun to be creative with your dressing and to sift through rails and find something really unique, especially if the money is going to a good cause.’
So if you want to resemble a quirky English beauty, remember that Oxfam outlets deserve a place on your shopping schedule. Even if you fail to pick something truly stunning the first time, a trip to Oxfam will surely result in a dog-eared recipe book that dates back to the late 1980s, a DVD you meant to see but never did and a clear conscience. Win-win
