The over-achievers under 30

by

The big 3-0 might creep up on some of us while we’re still behaving like kids with grown-up jobs and fancy wardrobes (it’s OK to drink chocolate Yazoo if you do so in designer shoes, right?) but when Alexander Wang enters his third decade at the end of this year, he’ll have a whole lot of adult achievements under his belt.

In a recent profile of the designer in The Times, Laura Craik details the astounding achievements of a man with the ‘CV of a 40-year-old’, despite only being 29. For instance, he wasn’t even 20 when he started his own label, and was just 22 when he burst onto the fashion scene with his first collection, an age when most of us are still strawpeedoing Smirnoff Ice. And that’s not all – riding high on the mega-success of his eponymous label, he opened his first store at 27 before landing the holy grail of fashion jobs as the creative director of Parisian powerhouse Balenciaga at 28.

We may have Girls to remind us that some people still do while away their twenties eating cake in the bath, although that’s only when you ignore the fact that its writer, director and star Lena Dunham, who has now made three series of the show and a critically acclaimed film, not to mention the pieces she’s written for The New Yorker and New York Times, has just turned 27.

Feeling green? Well, put down that Kit Kat and get inspired by these other cool-kids who’ve achieved a plethora of sweet successes, and aren’t even 30 yet.
