It's behind you: why it's all about the step hemline

by

Trust legendary street photographer Bill Cunningham to spot a trend that we already loved without knowing it. In his latest video for the New York Times, Cunningham presents his photographs of women out and about in New York wearing graduated hemlines and step-hems – more specifically, those that dip at the back, in all kinds of floaty fabrics, colours and styles.

It's not just Cunningham's keen eye that has impressed us, but his irresistibly romantic description of the look. 'The skirts seem to float by, and it's almost like a woman's perfume. She's passed you, and suddenly you have the waft of the scent... you catch the end of it, almost like the tail of a kite.'
