What the Frock: Taylor Swift

Our panelists on the latest and greatest celebrity looks

Taylor Swift wears Dolce & Gabbana in Nashville

Mandi Lennard, brand consultant and founder of Mandi's Basement
Hey Taylor, what's with the young bride on honeymoon in Capri?  You're so regulation, you should join the Girl Guides. Would it really hurt not to wash your hair for a few days, and smudge some liner?  Replace the ear clips with some Dominic Jones white gold polished spike 'Mandrake' hoops, and ditch the blow dry for a tin of Dax pomade.

When she isn't penning songs about her manys conquests, she's either on tour (again) or going to some music event, like this one in Tennessee. And she always looks adorable. Now, Tay Tay looks totally darling in this Dolce number, but there's something that doesn't sit quite right with me. Maybe it's the shoes or maybe it's all just a bit too cute.

Amol Rajan, comment editor at The Independent
Continuing our occasional series of Anecdotes That Reveal The True Meaning of Things, did you know that "Taylor Swift" is an anagram of "Twisty Flora". Yes, me too. And that is a fit description of what Taylor is wearing here, an uplifting, bright, summer-suggesting dress that might look like a posh curtain but is also just lovely. There's something almost oriental about the luminous floral prints, similar to what you see on the dresses of the Han Chinese; and what with that perfect fringe there's an element of East meets West, America meets the Orient, about it all – which on the day that Barack Obama is in talks with Xi Jinping seems perfectly topical too. In fact, Taylor's every bit the zeitgeist made flesh.
