Top Marks: Everyone feels the love for M&S
Family favourite Marks & Spencer today unveiled its new collection for autumn 2013, to the sound of clattering heels as fashion editors stampeded to buy it.
The Telegraph's Lisa Armstrong said 'there were at least three [coats] I could have bought there and then'
The Guardian's Jess Cartner-Morley said 'the bold fashion message on which Belinda Earl is pinning her hopes of turning around the fortunes of Britain's biggest clothing retailer is about quality, not trend.'
The Times's Laura Craik said [paywall] 'M&S is paying heed to the catwalk again. M&S is doing just what H&M, Zara and Topshop do. M&S is back in the game.'
And our Ursula says (after her trip to the showroom today):
'The collection looked modern and directional, ticking multiple trend boxes for the coming season with accessories and outerwear being particularly strong areas. Cleverly, the attention to detail in trends is matched by more functional developments in the structure of the garments, so that really quite high-heeled shoes are cushioned and balanced to increase comfort, and the very sexy lingerie has a superior fit. Practical and chic, got to love that!'
Hint: the pink coat. THE PINK COAT.
