It may sound churlish but THANK GOD THE TEMPERATURE HAS DROPPED. I know it's only warm enough to go out without a coat for two days a year in Britain but, frankly, that's quite enough for me. I like my coats, and I've basically spent the past two weeks going out in my nightie because I'm unable to cope with dressing for a heatwave.

So as the mercury drops and your interest in real clothes rises again (hurrah!) perhaps it's time to check out the pre-fall drops arriving in stores at the moment, at prices that make for a nice something-to-tide-you-over.

Obviously these clothes are not yet fully autumnal (no no, there's still an element of thighs-sticking-together weather so you'll have to put your beloved opaques and pea-coat on hold) but they're more trans-seasonal, more like things you can style properly and look good in, rather than the billowing muu-muus of the past two weeks.
