The backstage beauty saviours of fashion week
What makes a beauty product cult? One of the prerequisites for us must be that it pops up repeatedly in the kits of our most revered make-up artists and hair stylists during the month-long carnival of the New York, London, Milan and Paris ready-to-wear shows.
We're always inquisitive to see what the likes of Pat McGrath, Val Garland, Tom Pecheux or Charlotte Tilbury are pulling out of their matte black make-up bags. We don't know it yet, but these are the must-haves in waiting, often from some far-flung pharmacy or US trade store that, come the autumn, we'll all be clamouring to acquire so we too can get creating the most popular make-up trends of the season.
And don't forget hair. The backstage 'salons' are constantly a buzz with the new and niche of haircare. After all, the international catwalks are the ultimate showcase platform for iconic stylists like Guido Palau and Sam McKnight so, understandably, they want to bring their best looks to the table, and this requires the best tools, texturisers and styling kit known to man.
The bottom line is, only the best will do. When we see a product popping up repeatedly, you'll find it in the gallery above. For these are the new must buys that any beauty addict worth their salt should know about and luckily for you, we're all eyes and ears backstage.
